Driver, fuel and road included
Our regular driver with 20+ years of experience, fuel, toll sections and pickup in Almaty are all in the quoted price; you don’t pay extra per passenger. National park entrance fees, ski passes and a local off-road vehicle, if your route needs them, are not included.
Round trip
The round trip is one price. The driver waits for your group on site for as long as you said when booking; if you stay longer, you pay only for the extra hours.

Ungurtas is a village and a hill in Zhambyl District of Almaty Region, about 95 km west of Almaty on the Bishkek highway: past Kaskelen and Uzynagash, near the village of Samsy, a sign points you to the right, and Ungurtas is the second village from the highway. The name translates as “cave stone”: the hill has grottoes and caves, and the place itself is considered a point of special energy — pilgrims come here, as do meditation groups and people simply curious to see what all the talk is about. At the top there’s a platform with a memorial sign and a view over the steppe hills.

How to get to Ungurtas from Almaty
The route heads west on the lower Kaskelen road — past Kaskelen and Uzynagash toward Bishkek. Right after Samsy there’s a sign for Ungurtas on the right; from the highway it’s a few kilometers to the village and the hill. The distance from the city is about 95 km, roughly an hour and a half.
The minibus takes you to the foot of the hill; from there you climb on foot — it’s short and manageable for almost everyone. The driver waits in the parking area the whole time you’re there and drives you back once the group has gathered.
What people see here and why they come
Ungurtas hill means several caves and grottoes, a platform on top with memorial stones and open steppe all around. Some come as pilgrims, others for the quiet and the view, and others out of curiosity about the “place of power” so much has been written about. There’s little official infrastructure: think of it as a two- to three-hour walk in nature, with water and comfortable shoes.
Ungurtas works well as the second stop of the day: in the morning, the Tanbaly petroglyphs, 170 km out along the same highway; on the way back, the hill. If you want a completely different mood, Bishkek lies in the same direction: Ungurtas is right on the way to the border.
Ungurtas by minibus with driver, taxi or your own car
Scheduled buses to the village are infrequent and won’t wait to bring you back on your timing; a big group needs two or three taxis with waiting time; and a group in several private cars loses each other at the turnoff, with no cell signal.
