The 13-seat Toyota Hiace takes no other passengers. One person or 13 — the price is the same; we don’t sell individual seats or tickets. More than 13 people — we’ll find a partner minibus for your date; on short routes two runs in a row also work.
Driver, fuel and road included
Our regular driver with 20+ years of experience, fuel, toll sections and pickup in Almaty are all in the quoted price; you don’t pay extra per passenger. National park entrance fees, ski passes and a local off-road vehicle, if your route needs them, are not included.
Round trip
The round trip is one price. Waiting time on site and the driver’s overnight stay, if you travel for several days, are agreed when booking.

Bags and gear go in a separate compartment. If everyone has a large suitcase or a stroller, we take up to 9 people; with skis and snowboards, 9–10. Tell us what you’re bringing when you book.

Trips in the city and nearby are paid after the trip. Long intercity trips and trips of several days need a partial prepayment to hold the date, the rest before departure. Companies get an invoice, a contract and closing documents.

Kapchagay Reservoir on the Ili River is the closest place to Almaty where you can swim and relax by the water. Locals have long called it “our sea”: a wide expanse of water, sandy beaches and dozens of holiday resorts along the shore. It is only about 70 km away, roughly an hour and a half on the road, so people come here for a day or for the weekend — with friends, family or coworkers.
The town of Kapchagay itself was officially renamed Konaev in 2022, after Dinmukhamed Kunaev, but in conversation and in navigation apps the destination still goes by its familiar name, “Kapchagay.” The shore has both paid beaches with umbrellas and cafés and free wild spots for a tent. Almaty to Kapchagay (Konaev): the road and stops
The route runs north along the Kapchagay highway (the road toward Taldykorgan). It is about 70 km, roughly 1–1.5 hours on the road: the exact time depends on traffic leaving the city and on which beach we are heading to. The road is smooth, and the driver knows it well.
There are plenty of gas stations and cafés along the highway, and closer to the reservoir there are shops where you can stock up on water, ice and food for shashlik. Tell us which resort or beach you are going to and the driver will take you right there, without wandering the dirt tracks along the shore.
Spending the day at Kapchagay
The reservoir’s shore stretches for dozens of kilometers, and there are many ways to spend time on it. The developed resorts offer paid beaches, sunshades, cafés and pedal-boat rental; there are also free wild stretches where people pitch a tent and set up their own grill. The water warms up well in summer, and the gently sloping entry is convenient with children. Water parks and resorts with pools operate on the shore and along the highway — a popular choice for a trip with kids in the heat. And if you want more than a beach, a little farther down the Ili lies the Tamgaly-Tas site with rock carvings of the Buddha.
Anglers love Kapchagay too — the reservoir holds carp, zander, asp and other fish, so many come here for the morning bite. With your own minibus it is easy to bring the tackle and the whole group in one go, and to head home just as easily in the evening.
By minibus or on your own
Kapchagay is close, so it may seem easier to go in several cars. But then part of the group spends the day behind the wheel and sits out the feast with everyone else, parking at the popular beaches is packed, and your things have to be split between trunks. One minibus keeps everyone together: on the road you can talk instead of keeping an eye on the other car in traffic.
For a group of 8–13 people, hiring the whole Hiace costs less than taxis both ways, and the driver takes you from your door in Almaty straight to the water and picks you up at the agreed time. You can go for the day, or have the driver wait on the shore — whatever suits your plan.
You can also go from Almaty International Airport straight to Kapchagay: the driver meets your flight with a name sign, and there is no need to go into the city first.
