Our regular driver with 20+ years of experience, fuel, toll sections and pickup in Almaty are all in the quoted price; you don’t pay extra per passenger. National park entrance fees, ski passes and a local off-road vehicle, if your route needs them, are not included.

Pavlodar is a large city in northern Kazakhstan on the banks of the Irtysh, an important industrial and transport hub of the Irtysh region. People travel here from Almaty to relocate, on business trips and for family events, and also pass through on their way farther across the north of the country. The distance is long — about 1,400 km and some 17–18 hours of driving — so this is a full two-day intercity trip: with an early start, stops along the way and, depending on the situation, an overnight rest for the driver.
The same driver, with more than 20 years of experience, drives the whole way and is responsible for the vehicle. The cabin has climate control, a multimedia system and reclining seats, and the driver breaks up the long journey with stops for rest and meals — so passengers reach Pavlodar without being worn out. For a work team or a large family, this is also more predictable than collecting tickets for everyone.
Almaty to Pavlodar: the road and the stops
The route runs north through the central regions of the country toward the Irtysh — about 1,400 km and roughly 17–18 hours on the road, with stops. It is a long haul that isn’t done in one go: it is usually best to leave early in the morning so that most of the highway is covered in daylight. Along the way there are gas stations, cafés and rest areas — the driver plans in advance where it is convenient to stop to eat and stretch your legs, and times the breaks to suit the group.
Because of the length of the route, the driver may need an overnight stay in Pavlodar or on the way — that is normal for this distance, and we agree on it in advance. If the trip is not just there and back but involves business in the city, the vehicle stays with you for the agreed time and drives the group around locally. That is the whole point of your own minibus: it doesn’t leave on a timetable like a train, it adapts to your program.
When to go and what to prepare for on the road
The north of the country lives by a sharply continental calendar: in winter it can get close to −30 °C on the highway, and a blizzard can bury open stretches of steppe in a matter of hours. In severe weather the road services close some sections to traffic — the decision is theirs, so we agree on winter departures based on the latest reports and postpone the start if the highway is closed. In summer the weather is easier, and the long days work in your favor: almost the entire trip is in daylight. The most unpredictable months are March and November, when it thaws during the day and freezes into black ice at night.
The road is paved from start to finish, but the surface varies by section: there are roadworks in some places and speed limits in others, so the actual travel time can vary by an hour or an hour and a half. Between villages there are long stretches with no gas stations and patchy phone signal, and toward evening livestock wander onto the roadside — another reason long stretches are best driven in daylight. Bring water and snacks for the day, chargers, any medicines you usually take and some cash: not every roadside café has a card terminal. In winter keep warm clothes in the cabin rather than in the luggage compartment — if you have to wait on the highway, you will need them right away.
