Bus or Minibus: How Many Seats Does Your Group Need?
People write “we need a bus” and mean anything from 8 to 50 seats. We break it down by number of passengers and by scenario — a wedding, a corporate outing, a school trip, a shift shuttle, meeting a delegation. Hourly rental is from 10,000 ₸ per hour for the whole minibus.
When someone writes to us “we need a bus in Almaty,” it could mean a group of six or an entire school grade of fifty. So our first question is always the same: how many of you are going? Everything depends on that number — the class of vehicle, the number of runs and the price.
The rule of thumb is simple. Up to and including 13 people — one minibus, such as a Toyota Hiace. From 14 to 26 — two of them, because 13 plus 13 gives 26 seats. Anything over twenty-six calls for a full-size bus, and we don’t have one — let’s say that up front. Hourly minibus rental starts from 10,000 ₸ per hour with a 3-hour minimum, which is from 30,000 ₸ per trip — for the whole vehicle with a driver.
Below, we go through the scenarios with numbers: a wedding, a corporate outing, a school trip, a shift shuttle and meeting a delegation at the airport. And separately — why a price per vehicle and a price per seat work differently.
The headcount rule: 13, 26 and anything above
A 13-seat minibus covers most everyday needs: a family with kids, a department on an outing, a group of friends heading out of town, a group of guests from the airport. As long as there are no more than thirteen people, there’s no need to look further — one vehicle, one driver, one price.
From fourteen people, the arithmetic begins. Two 13-seat vehicles carry 26 passengers, and in money terms that is exactly two trips — there is no bulk discount. On the other hand, two vehicles are more flexible: they can go to different addresses, pick people up in two districts and arrive at the same place.
If more than twenty-six people are going, you need a full-size bus, not minibuses. We don’t have one, and we won’t talk you into three vehicles instead of one bus: most of the time that costs more and is harder to coordinate.

Price per vehicle vs. price per seat: Two different models
Scheduled transport and tours sell seats: you pay for yourself and go. Vehicle hire sells the whole vehicle, and that is the key difference when you work out a budget. We charge per minibus, so the total doesn’t change whether eight people ride in it or thirteen.
In figures, it looks like this. Hourly minibus rental is from 10,000 ₸ per hour with a 3-hour minimum — 30,000 ₸ per trip. A full 8-hour working day is 80,000 ₸. These amounts are for the vehicle with a driver and fuel: they are the same for seven people and for thirteen.
Intercity trips follow the same logic. A trip to the Turgen waterfalls costs from 70,000 ₸ for the whole minibus, no matter how many people get in. That is why it isn’t only large groups who book: one price, one driver and one route instead of tickets and changes can be just what four people, or even two, need.

Weddings: Guests almost always travel in batches
A wedding rarely needs one big run. In the morning the vehicle picks up the groom’s relatives, then goes for the bride’s friends, shuttles the right people between the uzatu (the Kazakh send-off of the bride from her parents’ home) and the restaurant, and after the banquet takes guests to the meeting point. That is why a wedding minibus is usually booked by the hour for the whole day — the vehicle stays with you until the end of the evening and has time for several loops.
Let’s take a concrete example: forty guests who need to get from two points in the city to the restaurant. One minibus can make four runs (three runs of 13 seats fit only 39 people) if there is half an hour between them, or you book four vehicles and take everyone at once. The first option is cheaper, the second is faster — the choice depends on how tight the day’s schedule is.

Corporate outings and trips to the countryside
Corporate outings almost always come down to one number — how many people will actually go. A department of twelve fits into one minibus along with a grill and boxes. Twenty-five employees means two vehicles, and you need to plan them right away, not the day before.
An out-of-town trip is priced for the whole route. For example, Kapchagay is from 60,000 ₸ for the entire minibus. For a company, this is usually cheaper than reimbursing gas for five employees driving their own cars — and much safer if the outing includes food and drinks.
For regular needs, companies set up corporate transport under a contract with payment by bank invoice. A one-off trip can be paid in cash or by Kaspi transfer (a Kazakh banking app) — whichever suits your accounting department.

School trips: A class rarely fits in one minibus
This is where people most often run into the arithmetic. A class usually has 25–30 children, plus a teacher and one or two parent chaperones — and they need seats too. Thirty people don’t fit even into two minibuses, because two times 13 is 26.
The realistic options are these. A small group of up to 13 — a sports club, a team, half a class going to an academic competition — is one vehicle, and school transport works well in this format. A whole class with chaperones means either a full-size bus from another carrier or two trips at different times, which is usually inconvenient for a field trip.
A separate word on safety: children travel with accompanying adults, boarding and drop-off are planned so that nobody steps out into traffic, and the route is agreed in advance. Sports teams often travel with equipment, and it is better to count it along with the people — kit bags and balls take up space.

Staff shuttles: One vehicle, several runs
A regular staff shuttle works differently from a one-off booking. What matters here is not capacity at any one moment but the schedule: a shift of 20 people travels fine in one vehicle in two runs, if there are 40–60 minutes between them and the pickup points are close together.
This setup saves real money: instead of two vehicles, one works every day, and the employees are simply split into two groups by time. It works when the plant or office allows staggered arrival times, and it doesn’t when all twenty people must be there at eight sharp.

Airport runs, delegations and where our limit is
Meeting a group at the airport is the case where luggage matters more than the number of seats. Nine people with large suitcases fill a minibus as tightly as thirteen traveling light, so when you book we always ask how many pieces of luggage there are. An airport transfer costs from 20,000 ₸ per vehicle, and the price doesn’t change with the number of people on board.
For delegations and delayed flights, the hourly format is more convenient: the driver meets you with a name sign, waits until everyone has gathered and takes the group to the hotel. If there are more than thirteen guests, you need two vehicles, and it is best to have both at the same exit so the group doesn’t scatter around the terminal.
